Where To Find Vintage Rugs In Nashville
A vintage Turkish or Persian rug can take a bland, faceless space and, almost on its own, turn it into a room with energy and charm. The pronounced patterns, depth of color, intricate craftsmanship — a good vintage rug really makes the most of the visual space it takes up.
Many people agree with me, so at this point, I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve been asked, “Where can I find vintage rugs in Nashville?” And I’ve made a point of collecting a few solid answers to share.
Shopping for vintage rugs in Nashville
If you’re shopping online, there are, of course, plenty of great outlets for vintage rugs — The Vintage Rug Shop is a go-to, and Etsy sellers often have beautiful vintage rugs to share too.
But if you’d rather skip the shipping, or prefer to see your vintage rugs in person before you purchase, you also have excellent options right here in Nashville. Below, three of my favorite places to turn for vintage Persian and Turkish (and other) rugs in Nashville:
Nashville Rug Gallery
For the biggest and widest selection of vintage (and otherwise) rugs, head to the south side of Nashville near the Zoo, for a visit to Nashville Rug Gallery. They’re not just a vintage warehouse — they also operate multiple weaving operations in Kurdistan, India, Nepal and Turkey, producing newer, hand-woven pieces. But their crop of antique and near-antique rugs is always impressive, and always high-quality, from vintage Turkish Hereke rugs to Kurdish Oushak and Persian Serapi rugs. The antique Oushak pictured above (photo from the Nashville Rug Gallery Facebook page) is likely long gone, but the subtle, worn colors are a perfect example of that visual power Studio McGee was pointing toward. Apple & Oak
Having grown from a single, cozy East Nashville shop to a two-location brand in Nashville, with its Hillsboro Village store, Apple & Oak established itself as a dependable go-to for cool, well-curated vintage rugs, particularly of the Turkish vintage variety. The Apple & Oak online store shows off the variety — anything from long runners to room-filling hand-knotted rugs, in all kinds of colors, from muted to bright. Added bonus: The shops also stock other well-curated furniture and home-decor items, from chairs to lighting and throw pillows. If you tend to like pieces that lean a little more glamorous, they’ll likely have a lot of stuff for you to fall for. More at appleandoaknash.com.
@cheribhomevintage
A really Nashville-specific, social media-bred pro tip: If you can’t spend thousands, but still hope you can score a beautiful vintage rug, follow our Nashville neighbor Cheri Barton on Instagram, at @cheribhomevintage. Barton has a knack for finding fantastic pieces, and she offers them for approachable prices — she routinely posts beautiful, large vintage rugs in the $300-$500 area. The vintage Persian rug pictured above was listed for $375, and sold quickly. Love vintage furniture? She scores midcentury furniture too, and shares pieces for similarly reasonable prices.
Hope these might help you on your hunt for the perfect vintage rug in Nashville. Still hunting for the perfect Nashville home to put your perfect vintage rugs in? I’d be honored to pitch in. Check out some Nashville homes for sale, and contact TJ Anderson Homes here.
